Digiperm: 4th time at Beauty Brick

Last Monday, I went back to Beauty Brick for my 4th Digiperm. My hair was greatly damaged from hair coloring and was lucky enough that I am still a valid candidate for digiperm. I just had to make sure that I treat my hair to hair masks at least once a week to help me gain back my healthy locks.

I could never trust anyone with my hair but Mr. Shin of the famous Beauty Brick Salon. 
Since I am one of their many loyal customers I was given a discount so from 3,500 I only paid 3,100 in total.

The curls are sized 18 and 15 very different from the "usual" curl size I request whenever I get my digiperm. I wanted bigger curls this time because I already knew how to take care of them and to keep them curled for a long time. I actually don't do anything to keep them curled for so long. Beauty Brick just knows how to keep them curled until your hair has grown too long. For first timers, it's best to get the size 15. It's a tad smaller than the ones I have right now and it's easier to maintain for newbies.

Digiperm: Updated Hair Maintenance

During the first few months after my first digiperm, I took care of my curls by applying hair products on it and conditioning it with organic hair products to keep it healthy. I find it expensive to keep on using organic ones which you have to pour in generous amounts to make the shampoo lather well. I stopped applying wax to my hair after a few months because I find it more "natural" if you don't put anything at all. It also saves time and money from buying various hair products and trying out which will work for your hair.

I recently bought a hair mist from Etude House. I have only used it twice. I can't really tell whether it works or not. But it does keep my hair smelling great! 
Coloring your hair really damages your hair because of the ammonia content. It dried my hair a bit and damaged it. So I had to apply hair masks AT LEAST once a week. After my 4th digiperm, I got myself a Shine Moist Keratin Treatment. It sounded really fancy and seems like it would save my hair from further damage and so it has been decided as my official hair mask.

Review: Shine Moist Keratin Treatment

A warning to people who are particular about how a product smells. THIS IS NOT THE BEST SMELLING HAIR PRODUCT IN THE MARKET. You have to smell it for yourself. 
It comes in a big tub that could last you roughly 15 applications depending on how thick and how long your hair is. I use this every 2 days instead of once a week. Almost putting my Tresemme conditioner at the back seat. Only because I wanted to gain back my healthy hair that has been damaged by hair coloring that contained ammonia. Goodbye to those hair dyes I am switching to foam dyes like Palty and Prettia. I'll post a review about it soon!

Thumbs Up:* Php 349.79 about $7-9 is a good value for a 500ml tub* Available locally* It works like no other! This is a miracle product. The first time I used this I could seriously tell my hair just got better!

Verdict:Of course, I will repurchase this even if it didn't smell good. I like products who can give me fast results and are budget friendly. Inexpensive and effective.

Digiperm: A documentation - 5 months after my 1st Digiperm

Here's a documentation of how my digiperm looked like 5 months after my first digiperm in 2010.If you are wondering how it looked like the first time I had my digiperm you may click on the link below.
First Digiperm
After a few weeks I went back to Beauty Brick because the curls were too loose so from size 18 then switched it to size 15. Thank goodness for hair warranties at beauty brick I didn't have to worry about wasting money. This is how it looked like the 2nd time I had digiperm.
2nd Digiperm (Hair Warranty)

Months went by and my hair grew longer but my curls stayed the same way. Which is why I strongly suggest to go to Beauty Brick for digiperms. Leave it to the expert. 
5 months later after my first perm this is how my hair looked like.

I went back to Beauty Brick for my 3rd digiperm in August 2011 no because the lost the curls. It's because I couldn't stand how long my hair was.

Digiperm: New Hair Care Routine

I am now a self declared expert on how to maintain your digi permed hair. I have had my hair digi permed since 2010 that makes it 2 years in a row. 
What works for me might now work for you but it doesn't hurt if you try what I do.
Shampoos and Conditioners
I use Tresemme for Curly HairI ordered this from the US but I have read somewhere you can get these at local supermarkets.

I don't use styling products anymore. You can get away without it. Less build up and less time to style your hair.

Digiperm: 3rd time at the Beauty Brick Salon August 2011

This post is long overdue and it's almost close to a year since I've had my 3rd digiperm session with Mr. Shin. You can tell by how many sessions I have had with Beauty Brick how loyal I am with them. There have been a lot of promos for digital perm packages on group buying sites but I was never tempted to purchase one in the fear of these salons my damage my hair. I have heard so many horror stories about this, thank you. No one wants their crowning glories ruined. I am not the adventurous type when it comes to my hair and skin. PLUS like I always tell everyone Mr. Shin has a one month hair warranty. Who does that? Only Beauty Brick does! So in case you lose your curls within  the period of one month from the time you had it you can always go back to BB salon and have it done absolutely FREE. 

 This is my hair right after they have blow dried it.

I asked Mr. Shin to cut it really short so I would know which would look best on me. I had long hair during my first and second digiperm.

Beauty Brick Salon Part 2

After having my hair colored and digipermed 3 weeks ago I knew I had to go back to Mr. Shin because some of my curls are gone. It was perfect, big curls and shiny ones but the type wouldn't last a year so I need a tighter and smaller ones. Thank you to Mr. Shin for having hair warranties.
They did it all over again and made tighter curls and smaller ones that the one before. Here's the finished product:

Public Transpo on the GO!Here's how you could get there: MRT Station: Go down to BUENDIA StationWhat You'll See: Shell and SM Cyberzone 2Walk to where the jeeps are waiting and ride any sign that says washingtonGo down to a Petron Gas Station that's right across Mcdonalds, Mercury Drug, KFC.You'll have to walk no matter what because it's a one way road so there's no way a jeep or a taxi coming from Makati Ave can turn left to Jupiter St. Unless you coming from the other side which I don't know how. lol. Beauty Brick is in line with the mentioned establishments. They are in the middle of red ribbon and Franck Provost. You wouldn't see red ribbon from afar what you'll see is an establishment called "Top Grill" right before Top Grill is Red Ribbon.
What I did:I live in the south so I took a bus ride from our place to Baclaran. Hailed a taxi their to take me to Petron in Jupiter St. My taxi bill was at 92.70 pesos but paid the driver a hundred because he was nice enough. The Petron gas station is on your left so I had to cross the street.
I walked my way to Dona Consolacion Bldg. It isn't that far and lil walking could help me get rid all of that baby fats I've accumulated from pregnancy. What you can do:Go down to Ayala MRT Station or Take a Bus ride to Makati Ave.Get off the bus and hail a taxi to take you there. It's easier and I think it won't cost you that much. Come on, you'll be spending thousands of bucks for that new hair, a hundred for a taxi isn't that much.

Digiperm: The After care Guide

Two weeks prior to my digiperm session with Mr. Shin I have been using organic Shampoo and Conditioner from Human Nature. The Moisturizing line to be specific. It helped me get a healthier hair believe it or not. I have damaged hair my whole life. I have been to some class A and B salons and always get the remarks of having a dry, frizzy and damaged hair. This is the first time someone actually praised my hair for being HEALTHY! It also CUTS DOWN the cost of digiperm to more than a thousand pesos and that thousand peso could buy you some good hair maintenance products like wax, shampoo and conditioner. Digiperm could cost you around 3,300-3,500 at the Beauty Brick SalonIf you have damaged hair and its frizzy as hell Mr. Shin will suggest that you get a staperm/stracurl so you can achieve that look you want. The cost? 4,300 and up. Besides, if you want to have you hair colored and avail the 10% discount that applies to regular customers and customers who avail more than one treatment like me then you should start off with a healthy hair. 3,300 (digiperm)2,800 (hair color)less 10% (He gave me a discount)I spent 5,400 in total.

The shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo is 109.75 for 200ml and the conditioner is 269.75 for a 500ml. I bought a smaller shampoo because a lil goes a long way with the Human Nature shampoo it's true and it's even printed on the bottle.

Mr. Shin has three waxes at his salon.

Freeze (Blue tub) - Used for styling short hair. Men's hair to be exact.
Hard (Yellow tub) - Used for digipermed hair
Shine (Green tub) - Used for digipermed hair with the shine factor but holds a lil less than the yellow one

This tub will cost you 500 pesos. Can last up to several months so don't shy away that 500 bux because it's worth the money

As told by Mr. Shin you mix this shine serum with the hard wax so you get the shiny healthy bouncy hair look. So you don't need to buy the green tub and get confused whether you should get the yellow one or the green one.

Remember These Guidelines:
* Take a good long bath before heading to the salon. You won't be able to wet your hair for 24-48 hours. In my case I am told to stay away from wetting my hair for 24 hours and the following day which happens to be the 2nd day its a big no for shampooing. Conditioner will do. To make it crystal clear, I had my hair done on a Friday. I didn't wet my hair on a Saturday. By Sunday, I am allowed to wash my hair but only with a conditioner. When Monday comes I can do my regular washing hair routine. * Invest on your maintenance product it doesn't have to be expensive. Find one that works for you. These products work for me. If these products work for me it doesn't mean it will work for you. But there's no harm giving it a try. * Towel dry your hair and make scrunching a habit. * If you're using wax make SURE that your hair is 100% DRY before applying the wax. Applying the wax on a hair that's not totally dry will result in ruining your digiperm. I USE WAX MIXED WITH HAIR SERUM that suppose to make your hair shiny and still hold the curls in place.
* If you opted mousse for styling your hair you can apply the mouse at about when the hair is 80-90% dry.
* Believe it or not you can comb your hair. Only to a CERTAIN POINT. What I do is: Comb my hair from the scalp halfway down right before where my curls are and finger comb the rest of the curls. You only do this when your hair is WET.
* You really don't need to get expensive treatments like Hair spa and stuff. These are optional well unless the stylist told you so.
* I find this style looking like a high maintenance but the truth is it's not. Combing is even optional so you can throw you brushes off from your purses ladies! * When you towel dry your hair you don't need to rub it like you used to when we all had straight hair. CURLS are different! You just squeeze them gently to get the water out and so you don't ruin your curls. * Don't be shy asking your stylist over and over the same questions until everything is oh so clear to you. It's their job to teach you how to maintain your crown of glory. -----With great effort of maintaining you hair with the products mentioned you should have those curls last from 6 months to a year! I am a skeptic by nature when it comes to changing something about the way you look. I have thought about getting a digiperm for almost a year now. Most people would tell me I'd rather have my hair rebonded or relaxed because it suits me better. Ive had those treatments done before and it's time I try something different! Hell life's too short to be to cautious on some things so I went a lil adventerous and finally got into the digiperm groove.
I've had it originally scheduled about a week ago but then called it off a day before because I had to attend to a family celebration thingy. At this point I was thinking "could this be a sign not to get my hair all curled up?" But being such a hard-headed woman I had my digiperm re-scheduled the following week which lands on a Friday and it's also my daughter's 2nd month-a-birthday. My appointment is at 12nn and screw the traffic the Metro has I arrived an hour late which I hope Mr. Shin wouldn't take it too personally. Japanese people have a thing for perfection and being on time. That's the main reason their rail transits get there on time and nobody is ever late. Sorry for the Pinoy Time Mr. Shin! Promise not to do it again.
Moving on, as I entered the place everyone greeted me. The place is cozy and hip at the same time. Think of a modern minimalist salon and it's just oozing with art everywhere! I LOVE IT!
Mr. Shin was at the counter looking over some stuff and I really bad that I came in an hour late. Mr. Shin sure loookkksss good! lol. I'm sure you'll have a crush on him! Teehee! My hair was about past the boob length. I've had layered hair since HS so it's always that way no matter what. lol.

I was expecting spending more than 5,400 because having known my hair for a long time, it has always been damaged and I assumed that Mr. Shin will give me stracurl/straperm treatment instead of the plain digiperm. I was really surpised when he told me that my hair was healthy and I could get the hair color and digiperm that same day! Most customers come back two weeks after their digiperm to get the hair color done. I guess I have to give the credits to my organic shampoo and conditioner. Two weeks prior to getting a perm, I've been using Human Nature's Moisturizing line and it helped a lot in preparing my hair for the treatment.

As soon as you get there you are greeted by every staff at the salon. Imagine entering a Classy Japanese Resto where everyone greets you as soon as you set foot in their territory. Here's the step by step guide on how they do it. Well as far as i remember it. lol * You'll be seated at your designated chair and Mr. Shin will scrutinize your hair. He'll then tell you whether you're getting a digiperm or a straperm/stracurl (half rebond, half curl). * At least two people will help you get in the wash tub (i don't know how you call it) and they wash your hair with a good smelling shampoo. Take note that you don't just get any kind of shampooing done here. They massage your scalp and temples like that of the facial salon where they put a slight pressure on the forehead and makes what I see as a dot to dot outline of your head.
* You are then brought back to your seat and they'll blow dry your hair. At this point, at least three people will be crowding you with blow dryers in their hands to prep your hair for the next step. *Mr. Shin will snip some of your hair.
* Mr. Shin then mixed different colors to make that perfect color that I liked (you can look through his look book of styles and colors to give him and idea of the color that you want).
* Hair color is applied by three people all working together to make it perfect and I was then placed under an alien-esque looking hair color cooker. After the what I call hair cooker I was then blow dried by two people. Yes, with the wet hair color and shower cap on. This will make the hair color's staying power even better.
* Off to the wash tub again and then they spritz some keratin on my hair (washing and treating your hair makes the keratin go away. So they replenished it).
* Curlers were attached to my hair (size 18) then I was attached to the octopus looking machine which is called the digiperm machine. * Another trip to the wash tub and this time they applied conditioner. They also applied a speedy recovery thing cream. * Last blow dry for this session and then Mr. Shin snipped some of my bands to frame my face mixed two of his house waxes the shine wax (green tub) and the hard wax (yellow tub).
